99.3CountyFM is a not for profit community-driven radio station known for delivering fresh content, local news, and diverse music to our audience. A great opportunity for a person interested in radio broadcasting, specifically community outreach journalism, marketing and production co-ordination. The position offers the applicant the ability to work at a not-for-profit local community radio station, in a supportive environment where both staff and volunteers will make every effort to ensure the individual experiences many different facets of radio broadcast work. Previous audio editing skills is an advantage.

What You’ll Do: As a Summer Broadcast Journalist, you’ll play a key role in keeping our operations running smoothly. The job will provide a rich and varied experience in a fast-paced broadcasting environment that serves to reach a diversified and eclectic audience. At the completion of this placement, the applicant will have an excellent base of knowledge and experience to support continued education in the field of journalism and (broadcast in general), combined with opportunities to support the station’s radio production duties. 

Duration: May 20 – July 11
Hours: 35 hours per week, days as needed
Pay: $17.50 / hour
Canada Summer Jobs – Must be between 15 – 30 years of age

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Research community events/happenings
  • Report on identified events and assist in representing the radio station on-site.
  • Use remote broadcasting equipment (microphones, recording equipment, tent) at live events and in-studio.
  • Assist with building and executing on-air and off-air promotional campaigns.
  • Assist from time to time with Radio Traffic (programming and commercial schedule production).
  • Brainstorm/create SM posts for the station’s various on-line channels.
  • Support the station’s priorities and fundraising activities such as Radiothon, a major four day event including over 44 local musicians.
  • Actively participate/contribute ideas during news team and production meetings.
  • Help coordinate activities volunteers when required.
  • Assist the programing and news team in production and voice work.
  • Prepare live segments for rebroadcast using various recording equipment.

As this role offers opportunities to be involved in the station’s broader functions, other tasks may be assigned. The work will be performed at the 99.3 County FM broadcast studio: 38 Cold Storage Rd, Prince Edward County, ON, and also at community and other civic events throughout the County. Own transportation is preferred. Travel reimbursement will be provided when using a personal vehicle for work purposes, or when taking public transit.
