Position Overview
In conjunction with the program instructor/coordinator/principal, the clinical instructor will be responsible for supporting the PSW students transfer of learned theory knowledge and practical lab skills into the clinical setting at the John M. Parrot Centre for the Aged in Napanee, Ontario. As the Clinical Instructor, you will complete mid-term and final evaluations for each student, as well as the skills passbook, and any supporting clinical placement assignments. As the liaison with the Long-Term Care Home, you will work with the LTC home staff to support a safe and supportive learning environment for the students to gain experience and a greater depth and breadth of knowledge and solidification of required skill sets. In this capacity you will also work with the LTC home to secure supportive preceptors to assist students with their experience, including assisting with scheduling of the clinical placement hours and orientation days, and recording accurate attendance of students.
Qualifications & Experience
- Registered Nurse or Registered Practical Nurse in current good standing with the College of Nurses Ontario
- Experience in one or more of the following areas:
o Long-Term Care
o Hospital
o Community agency
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in gerontology
- Experience in supervision, evaluation and assessment of PSWs
- Experience in clinical placement support (of PSWs, PNs, RNs)
- Understanding and knowledge of PSW Training Standards
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to motivate and engage learners through application of adult learning pedagogy
- Demonstrated respect for and understanding of culturally diverse backgrounds
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team
Availability Requirements
- Able to supervise 110 hours of supervised clinical placement in April
- Ideally schedule would be 10 hour shifts weekdays from April 16 to May 1 (excluding Good Friday and Easter Monday) but willing to discuss scheduling with successful candidates
- Available for both day and evening shifts
- 1 required onboarding day with John M Parrott Centre in advance of start of work with students.
