Summary

Queen’s University has launched the Queen’s Renew Program, a multi-year initiative aimed at ensuring the university’s professional services are operating effectively to support delivery of our academic and research mission.

The Renew Program Office (RPO) works with Queen’s senior leaders, staff, faculty, and external partners to examine processes and structures to identify existing areas of strength, opportunities to enhance effectiveness and efficiency, and ensure the university is making the best use of its resources in support of the academic and research mission.

Queen’s is seeking a highly skilled organizational change leader to provide expert change management guidance for the Renew Program. Reporting to the Executive Director, RPO and working closely with the Director of Organization Development in Human Resources, the incumbent will work with senior leadership and partners across the university to develop and implement change management strategies.

This role requires a change leader with a proven track record in delivering change solutions for all phases of complex project lifecycles, including Discovery, Assessment, Design and implementation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Collaborate with university leaders, and other members of the RPO team, to develop and implement a university-wide change management strategy to transform the delivery of professional services Queen’s and build a culture of continuous improvement.
• Lead the development and implementation of change management strategies for each professional services function initiative with the Queen’s Renew Program, in partnership with leaders and subject matter experts. Develop the case for change, conduct impact studies, assess change readiness, and identify key constituents affected by change. Identify change management risks and recommend tactics to mitigate them.
• Provide strategic advice and coaching for university leadership to increase their effectiveness in driving sustainable change.
• Support the development of a change management communications plan, working closely with the Manager of Communications in the RPO.
• Actively builds a change culture at Queen’s by increasing change knowledge, tools, capacity and resilience for university leadership and in those professional services that interact with the RPO.
• Develop metrics and reporting to assess the effectiveness of change management strategies and recommend iterative changes to support continuous improvement.
• Build strong working relationships with the organizational development unit in Human Resources, the Vice-Principal (Culture, Equity and Inclusion) office, and change management practitioners in Information Technology Services.
• Promote a culture of inclusion, with a commitment to the university’s equity, diversity, inclusion and Indigenization Initiatives designed to foster an inclusive, supportive, and welcoming work environment.
• Act as a resource for RPO colleagues and support other activities as assigned as a member of the Renew Program team.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• University degree combined with at least 5 years of experience in leading and implementing change management strategies. Operational leadership experience is an asset.
• Advanced knowledge of change management values, methodologies, and tools is required. A professional designation in change management is an asset (PROSCI). Experience in higher education is preferred.
• Previous experience working in a post-secondary institution is an asset
• The incumbent must be able to attend work on campus for in-person meetings (minimum of 2 days per week). Hybrid work is supported.
• Consideration may be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Exceptional influence, problem solving and relationship building skills to build alignment, trust and support for the Renew Program.
• Understanding of organizational development and change management theory.
• Develops and maintains relationships with individuals at every level of the university to support and achieve organizational goals and objectives.
• Strong written and verbal communication to work effectively across multiple portfolios within the university at all levels of the organization.
• Ability to interpret and develop insights from data and provide actionable recommendations to support data-based choices.
• Proven ability to think strategically.

DECISION MAKING:

 Provides advice and guidance to university leadership and the RPO team on change management strategies suitable for a university environment.
• Escalate complex or sensitive issues to the Executive Director, RPO as needed.
• Assess change management risks and propose strategies to address them.
• Provide expert advice on managing initiatives and contribute to the strategic planning of the program’s long-term goals.
• Select the method and criteria to measure the effectiveness of change efforts.
• Organize and facilitate engagements with key members of the Queen’s community, choosing the appropriate format, approach and content.
• Prioritizes own work and work of broader team in accordance with evolving and/or competing priorities.
• Identifies opportunities for improvement and provides recommendations for changes.
