DRIVER – ROADS (PERMANENT, FULL-TIME, MULTIPLE VACANCIES)

The Human Resources Department is currently accepting applications for the permanent full-time position of Driver – Roads. Reporting to the Roads Supervisor, the primary duties of this position will be to provide the safe operation of the control equipment used on our roads, as well as the maintenance of County roads, sidewalks and bridges. 

This position will assist with sidewalk, culvert and fencing installations and perform road construction maintenance related duties as required including traffic control, repairs, vehicle maintenance and general cleaning related tasks. The successful candidates will be taught how to identify noxious weeds and will assist in their termination and removal following the Ministry of Agriculture’s Guidelines and Procedures. 

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications: 

·       Grade 12 diploma and related experience or five (5) years’ experience driving DZ vehicles. Preference will be given to those applicants who have prior experience driving a dump truck or other similar equipment

·       Ability to operate tandem and single axle trucks for road maintenance and construction

·       Previous experience in the operation of heavy equipment

·       Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, as required

·       Proven communication and customer service skills

·       Knowledge and training under the Occupational Health & Safety Act

·       Ability to complete tasks involving heavy pushing, pulling and lifting on a regular basis and work in an uncontrolled environment

·       Proof of valid class ‘DZ’ Ontario driver’s license and a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract is required.  

The current rate of pay for this position is $25.15 per hour, as per Band 6 of CUPE Local 2275’s Collective Agreement. Compensation also includes a competitive benefit package and membership in OMERS, a defined benefit pension plan.
