The County Food Hub is seeking a passionate and enthusiastic Cooking Club Food Instructor to lead interactive cooking classes for children and youth of various ages. This role is perfect for someone who loves working with kids, enjoys teaching practical kitchen skills, and believes in the power of food to build confidence, creativity, and community.

Reports to: Executive Director & Program Committee
Schedule: 5-7 hours per day, 1-3 days per week on a contract basis
Start date: Mid-September and throughout the winter and spring
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and lead fun, hands-on cooking classes for children of different age ranges (e.g. ages 9-11, 12-13, and teens)
- Demonstrate food and kitchen skills such as: food preparation and cooking techniques, kitchen safety, hygiene practices, knife skills, and how to follow a recipe in an age-appropriate way
- Engage kids in teamwork, creativity, and discussion around food choices and healthy habits
- Work with County Food Hub staff and volunteers to coordinate class supplies, ingredients, and equipment
- Set up and clean up the kitchen space (including dishes and mopping) before and after each class
- Foster a positive, safe, and encouraging class environment for all participants
- Working within the budget parameters, coordinate ingredient lists and grocery shopping as needed
- Communicate with volunteers, caregivers and staff as needed to support student experience
- Follow all food safety and hygiene guidelines in line with the County Food Hub’s policies
Qualifications:

Experience with cooking or food preparation (professional cooking experience an asset)

Experience working with children in a teaching, mentoring, or supervisory role is an asset

Knowledge of food safety and kitchen hygiene practices

Organized and reliable, with the ability to manage small groups in a fast-paced environment

Ability to accommodate dietary needs or food allergies

Excellent communication skills, friendly, patient, and adaptable to teaching different age groups with different group dynamics

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, doing physical work – such as shopping, lifting, dish washing, mopping and moving small equipment, on your feet for 5-7 hours

Food Handler’s Certification (or willingness to obtain) and Vulnerable Sector Check will be required
