We operate a not for profit community radio station that reflects and contributes to the richness, diversity, public safety and economic vitality of Prince Edward County. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual interested in the world of radio broadcasting, specifically in the area of community outreach journalism, marketing and production co-ordination. The position offers an individual the ability to work at a not-for-profit local community radio station in a supportive environment where both staff and volunteers will make every effort to ensure the individual experiences as many different facets of radio broadcast work as possible. Previous audio editing and/or multimedia production is an asset.
At the completion of this placement, the individual will have an excellent base of knowledge and experience to support continued education in the field of journalism and broadcasting in general, combined with opportunities to support the station’s radio production duties – critical during the station’s busy summer period. Prince Edward County’s population swells from 29,000 to welcome up to 800,000 visitors annually.
More specifically, the role of this broadcast journalist placement focuses strongly on community outreach which will allow the individual to cover and reflect news and events from across PEC.

Number of hours per week: 35 (5 days a week,. Monday – Friday)
Hourly Wage: $17.60
Language requirements: English
To qualify must be 15 to 30 years of age.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Support 99.3 CountyFM’s priority marketing and fundraising activities such as Radiothon, a major four day event including over 45 local musicians and musical acts.
- Research community events and happenings
- Report on identified events, with story recommendations and news angles
- Represent the station at events, potential for reports back to the station
- Use remote broadcasting equipment
- Assist from time to time with Radio Traffic (programming and commercial schedule production)
- Assist with building and executing on-air and off-air promotional campaigns
- Complete analysis and reports on social media activity to gauge effectiveness
- Brainstorm and create social media posts for 99.3 CountyFM’s channels
- Actively participate and contribute ideas during meetings, some of which may be held virtually, and reach out to volunteers when assistance is required
- Assist programming and news team in production and voice work
- Prepare live segments for rebroadcast using various recording equipment
