Maintenance Worker – Grounds & Gardens (Temporary Full-Time)

Hours of Work: Up to full-time hours (37.5 hours per week) Part-time applicants will be considered 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday to Friday

Salary: $26.05 to $30.47 per hour

Primary Location: 97 Thomas Street East – various County buildings in Lennox & Addington and Prince Edward County

Closing Date: April 17, 2026

Duration: Up to 6 Months; May 4, 2026- October 30, 2026

What you will do:

Reporting to the Property Supervisor, you will play a vital role in supporting our mission to enhance the well-being of the individuals and communities we serve. You will play a vital role in enhancing the appearance and health of outdoor spaces across County-owned properties. Your key responsibilities will include:

• Create, plant, and maintain attractive gardens and landscaped areas across various County properties
• Perform seasonal planting, pruning, soil preparation, fertilizing, and general horticultural care
• Undertake routine grounds maintenance to ensure outdoor spaces remain safe, healthy, and inviting
• Monitor plant health and address weeds, pests, and other landscape concerns
• Operate landscaping tools, equipment, and County vehicles as required
• Work independently to complete assigned tasks while maintaining high standards of quality and safety
• Perform general preventative maintenance duties from time to time, such as required maintenance and service in accordance with equipment manuals and work orders, cleaning & garbage removal and minor repairs, including carpentry, painting, drywall, etc.
• Work overtime from time to time

What you will bring:

Three (3) years of experience performing minor household repairs and gardening, landscaping, horticulture, or general grounds maintenance. Enjoys hands-on work and takes pride in maintaining beautiful gardens
• Knowledge of seasonal planting, pruning techniques, soil care, and plant maintenance
• The ability to work independently with strong attention to detail
• Physical stamina and the ability to perform manual labour in varying weather conditions
• A dependable work ethic and commitment to maintaining safe, well-kept outdoor environments
• The successful candidate must possess a secondary school graduation diploma. The ideal candidate will possess a post-secondary school diploma in a related field of study   i.e., horticulture, forestry, and or equivalent education
• Possess a valid Class G Drivers License and be able to provide a satisfactory driver’s abstract
• Proficiency using computer applications, i.e. Word, Excel & Outlook is an asset.
• Satisfactory attendance record, subject to the requirements of the Ontario Human Rights Code
• Employment is conditional upon a satisfactory criminal record check
