The Trent Hills Library, with branches in Hastings, Campbellford and Warkworth, serves all of the citizens of Trent Hills Municipality with branches in Campbellford, Warkworth and Hastings.

The Trent Hills Library is seeking a Part Time Library Assistant to join their team.

Trent Hills Public Library is seeking a people-oriented individual to work at all library branches (Campbellford, Hastings, and Warkworth) as a Part-Time Library Assistant. The successful applicant will be required to work with a very high degree of accuracy, exercise tact and independent judgment in accordance with library policy and must possess demonstrated respect and appreciation for patrons of all ages. It is anticipated that there will be opportunities for additional hours available from time to time.

Job Duties:

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Greets and assists library patrons in a manner that is friendly, helpful, and professional
  • Performs regular circulation and service desk duties including, but not limited to:
    • The checking in and out of all library materials
    • Assisting patrons to find appropriate library materials and information
    • Maintaining patron membership records
    • Answering incoming telephone calls in a professional manner, making clear notes as required
    • Accurately collecting library fees and revenues accruing from the ILS, room rentals, program registrations, and print services
    • Placing holds on requested materials
    • Placing interlibrary loan requests
    • Notifying patrons of holds and interlibrary loans
    • Notifying patrons of overdue library materials
  • Distributes library promotional material at the circulation desk and promotes library events and programs to the public
  • Provides basic instructions and assistance to patrons with the library’s photocopier, managing printing, fax, and scanning requests
  • Provides basic instructions and assistance to patrons with the library’s catalogue and online resources. May provide limited assistance to patrons using personal devices to access the library’s electronic resources
  • Provides basic instructions and assistance to patrons with the library’s public access technology, peripherals, and devices. May troubleshoot and address problems with equipment and technology as needed
  • Shelves library materials in their proper location with accuracy and speed
  • Shelf-reads and maintains orderly shelves
  • Using the communication tools provided, keeps up to date with critical library information, including program schedules, events, services offerings, and procedure updates
  • Enforces library policy in a calm and professional manner
  • Supervises Student Pages and volunteers
  • Monitors inventory of supplies
  • Updates branch displays and promotional materials as directed
  • Assists with programs, events, and special projects as directed
  • Under the direction of the Branch Supervisor, may develop and conduct programming for all ages
  • May represent the library at outreach and community events
  • May be responsible for the operation of the library in the absence of the Branch Supervisor
  • Other duties as assigned

 

 


Qualifications:

  • Secondary school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in customer service
  • Experience in a library, public service, or other community-based work considered an asset
  • Willingness to enroll in the Ontario Library Service EXCEL Certificate Program or other library-initiated professional development
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience working with a variety of computer applications, electronic resources, and internet; comfortable learning new technology
  • Able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
  • Able to work at all library branches
  • Minimum physical requirements: able to lift 30 pounds, bend, reach, and stretch
  • Valid and satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check

Additional Information:

Wage Rate: $ 24.13 per hour plus 4% vacation pay.

Hours of Work: Up to an average of 5 hours per week. Hours and location are subject to change at any time.
Location(s): Campbellford Branch (98 Bridge St. E, Campbellford), Hastings Branch (6 Albert Street East, Hastings), Warkworth Branch (40 Main St., Warkworth)
