Salary Range: Pay Grade Level C without certification ($27.22/hr ~ $28.26/hr) or Pay Grade Level D with certification ($30.75/hr ~ $33.26/hr)

Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte (MBQ) is a vibrant First Nation community located on the beautiful shores of the Bay of Quinte. We are located approximately 20 minutes from Belleville, ON and centrally located between Toronto and Ottawa. There are approximately 11,000 registered members with approximately 2200 residing in Tyendinaga. Position Summary:

The Lands office takes care of all land matters and issues of the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory. This position is responsible and accountable to the Director of Community Services in compliance with the Resources, Lands & Environment Management Program (RLEMP), to co-manage all matters concerning the administration of reserve and designated lands in the TMT; creation, transfer and registration of all real property; document execution and registration; procurement of legal surveys, notification of needs and requirements; obtaining approvals and registration; agricultural leases, cottage leases, hay tenders; development and maintenance of client, organizational and Federal agency documentation and Cemetery management.

Reporting:

This position will report to the Director of Community Services.

 

Summary of Main Responsibilities:

  • Preparing all land transfers and any additional required documentation for member transactions as well as any MBQ transactions
  • Obtaining any necessary legal surveys as requested by MBQ for work on the Territory
  • Liaising with surveyors and members for any required surveys on the Territory
  • Maintaining cemetery documentation, liaising with funeral homes and families and issuing burial certificates
  • Working with clients and providing all necessary information so that they understand all obligations and requirements as per RLEMP, MRP, federal and other applicable guidelines and MBQ policy
  • Identify, evaluating and correctly interpreting evidence relating to interests in, title to and status of reserve land
  • Ensuring all pertinent information is gathered and forms signed as required for expedient service
  • Working with other MBQ Departments as required to identify, evaluate and correctly interpret evidence relating to interests in, title to and status of reserve land
  • Keeping up to date on all applicable guidelines, legislation, and policy in regard to Indian and Crown Lands
  • Providing information on status of issues
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Professional Lands Management Certification program preferred or willing to obtain
  • Diploma in Lands Management, Estates or Community Planning or related field required
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in lands or administration
  • A combination of education, training and experience would be considered
  • Previous experience working in an Indigenous setting would be considered an asset
  • Must provide a clear Criminal Record Check
  • Valid Driver’s License and clear driver’s abstract

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience with computer programs (i.e., Microsoft Office, Excel, email, and internet)
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with strong attention to detail
  • Good analytical, discretionary and thinking skills
  • Well developed interpersonal, public relations, communication and relationship building skills
  • Knowledge of relevant local agencies and resources
  • Ability to use ISC electronic land and environmental management system
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
