This position is an integral part of a team that’s dedicated to supporting people who are participating in our transitional housing model. In this role, you’ll support people with an intellectual disability to develop independent living skills that will lead them to transition to a more independent housing model that’s based on their unique preferences and needs. During each shift, you will enhance the quality of life for people we support by fostering their community connections, personal relationships and personal goal attainments.

About You Well-known as a successful collaborator, you are a graduate of a relevant Human Services degree or diploma program. You can demonstrate your understanding of provincial accreditation bodies that promote ongoing quality of service. In addition, an understanding of MCCSS compliance and expectations around compliance standards would be considered an asset.

As well, you have experience writing plans of support and supporting people with developing their individual plans of support. Using a holistic approach, you are experienced in supporting people to manage their overall and specific health support needs.

There are two (2) Vacancies.

Compensation:
Entry $29.99/hour > Access to the Group Benefits Plan and a Group RRSP Plan

Hours:
80 hours over two (2) weeks. The hours of work will be 1900-0700 and 2300-0700.

The position requires the incumbent to primarily work in a rotational 2-week pattern.

Days of work will vary based on service needs.

 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitating Person Directed Planning and supporting people to develop strategies that lead to the attainment of individual goals.
  • Using tools to support people to develop personal goals leading to increased independence.
  • Developing teaching tools that lead to increased independence and skills.
  • Demonstrated past experience supporting people to manage their overall and specific health care needs.
  • Implementing augmentative communication strategies
  • Excellent problem solving and crisis management skills
  • Proven ability to initiate tasks combined with creative problem solving abilities.
  • Using technology to promote independence, increase communication and autonomy.
  • Creative problem solving and decision making.
  • Advocating for the people you support.
  • Communicating effectively with families, community partners and community members.
  • Assisting with and maintain administrative tasks as required by the both the people we serve and assigned duties in keeping with the policies/procedures and practices of the organization.
  • Assisting with household maintenance tasks as outlined policies/procedures and practices of the organization.
  • Bringing to life our values, vision and mission: Dedicated to supporting people with intellectual disabilities and their families to explore possibilities, pursue opportunities, make choices, and live the life they choose.

Who we’re looking for:

  • Graduate of a Direct Support Worker (DSW), Social Service Worker (SSW), (BST), Justice Worker or another relevant Human Services degree/diploma.
  • Current CPR & First Aid and CPI Certificates.
  • Applied Medications Certificate or completed training deemed equivalent by the employer.
  • Valid Full G Drivers Licence & access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Clear Vulnerable Persons Sector Check.
  • Ability to demonstrate consistent attendance at work.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative be innovative and think outside-the-box.
  • Able to present confirmation documentation of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (2 doses).
  • Ability to communicate with people both internal and external to the organization.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent oral & written communication skills.
