The Cook/Server/Front-End Support team member plays a versatile role at Lakeside Inn, primarily focused on cooking during peak periods and cooking and serving during slow periods. While this position is not a bar role, team members may occasionally be required to serve simple drinks, beer, or basic alcoholic beverages to guests in accordance with Smart Serve regulations. Flexibility, professionalism, and the ability to transition smoothly between kitchen and front-of-house duties are essential.
Key Responsibilities Kitchen & Food Preparation:
- Prepare and cook menu items according to established recipes, portion sizes, and quality standards.
- Ensure all food items are handled, prepared, and stored safely in compliance with food safety regulations.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, including sanitizing surfaces, washing dishes, and managing waste.
- Refill and restock kitchen supplies, condiments, prep items, and paper goods.
- Monitor product levels and communicate low stock or ordering needs to management.
Front-of-House / Serving (During Slow Periods):
- Serve customers in the dining room when a dedicated server is not scheduled.
- Take orders, deliver food, and process payments using the POS system.
- Maintain cleanliness of tables, floors, and service areas, and assist with beverage refills.
- Provide friendly, professional guest service at all times.
Basic Alcohol Service (As Needed):
- Serve simple alcoholic beverages such as beer, wine, and basic mixed drinks to guests during slow periods when serving duties are required.
- Verify guest age in accordance with Smart Serve regulations.
- Maintain responsible alcohol service practices; this role does not require full bartending skills or managing a bar.
General Operations & Cleaning:
Assist with maintaining clean front-of-house spaces including dining areas, entryways, and washrooms. Perform light cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, and sanitizing surfaces. Complete dishwashing as required. Complete other tasks as assigned by management to support daily operations.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Previous experience in cooking and/or serving preferred; hospitality experience is an asset.
- Smart Serve certification required (for serving alcohol).
- Food Handlers Certificate preferred.
- Ability to multitask and transition between kitchen and front-of-house duties efficiently.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Comfortable using a POS system (training provided).
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and stand for extended periods.
- Team-oriented, reliable, and adaptable to changing needs.
Work Environment & Expectations:
- Must be available for a mix of daytime, evening, weekend, and holiday shifts.
- Flexibility to adapt to seasonal business demands.
- Maintain a professional and positive attitude in a fast-paced environment.
- Primary responsibilities are kitchen-focused during peak periods and serving and cooking during slower periods with occasional simple alcohol service.
Wage range depending on experience.
