Are you interested in highway design and construction material? Do you want to learn more about plans and specifications as they relate to road construction and design? Our Human Resources Department is currently accepting applications from students to fill the summer position of Civil Engineering Student to support our Operational Services Department in beautiful Prince Edward County, a vibrant community with beautiful beaches, wide open landscapes and ample opportunities for outdoor fun, including artistic and cultural events, food, music and wineries/breweries.
The ideal candidate will be enrolled in a post-secondary program in Civil Engineering or a related discipline and returning to school in the Fall. This student will work under the supervision and mentorship of the Construction & Technical Services Supervisor to contribute to the planning, delivery, and documentation of construction and maintenance activities across the County’s road, drainage and right-of-way assets. Key responsibilities include assisting with construction inspection, reviewing contractor work for compliance with plans, specifications and standards, documenting site conditions, and supporting quality assurance activities such as material tracking, measurements, and field reporting. The student will also assist in preparing, updating, and maintaining infrastructure mapping using ArcMap, supporting the accuracy and completeness of the County’s asset inventory and digital records.
Qualifications:
- Enrolment in a recognized post-secondary program and returning to school in the Fall.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office software. Experience using ArcMap would be an asset.
- Safety conscious and provides own certified safety footwear.
- Able to work as part of a team and independently, as required.
- Proof of a valid ‘G2’ or ‘G’ Ontario Driver’s Licence and a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract.
