Church Bookkeeper

The Cressy Glenora United Church is seeking a detail-oriented and reliable individual to join our team as a part-time Church Bookkeeper. This position is approximately 10 hours per week and is primarily virtual, with occasional in-person meetings as required. This is a great opportunity for someone who values flexibility and is interested in supporting the financial operations of a welcoming and community-focused church.

Duties:

Weekly:

  • Record and report all church offerings and electronic donations with accuracy
  • Process and record bill payments, including coordinating authorized signatures
  • Maintain organized filing of financial and supporting documentation

Monthly:

  • Prepare and complete bank deposits for offerings and other receipts
  • Calculate and issue invoices to partner church for shared services
  • Reconcile bank statements and monitor account balances and cash flow
  • Transfer funds accurately between church and pastoral charge accounts
  • Coordinate withdrawals from investment funds as directed by the Finance Committee
  • Attend Finance Committee meetings as required

Annually:

  • Calculate and issue invoices to the church cemetery for shared services
  • Prepare and distribute charitable donation receipts, including mailings
  • Compile financial information for the annual report
  • Complete United Church of Canada financial reporting (“Blue Form”)
  • Prepare and submit the charitable tax return to the CRA
  • Liaise with the central payroll administrator

Qualifications:

  • Basic bookkeeping knowledge (experience is desired)
  • Software literacy (eg. Google/Microsoft office suite, spreadsheets, word processing, electronic communications)
  • Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy
  • Experience in a church or non-profit environment is considered an asset
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with volunteers, staff, & community partners
  • High level of integrity and reliability when handling confidential financial information
