Ducon is looking for a Full Time Apprentice Carpenter to join their team
Job Responsibilities
- Carry out carpentry work for new and renovation projects from foundation to finishes
- Receive instructions from a supervisor and independently complete assigned tasks
- Under supervision, apply information found in drawings, specifications, building codes
- Plan sequence of methods of work to complete assigned tasks
- Assist with preparing layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools
- Safely and efficiently operate various types of hand and power tools
- Measure and mark materials accurately to avoid costly mistakes or omissions
- Cut, shape, assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials
- Assist with verifying the completed works are level, plumb and the right size, shape and location
- Respond efficiently to change orders
- Deliver quality work in a timely manner
- Ensure safety standards are always met and notify the supervisor of problems or concerns
- Continually maintain a clean project site, ensuring standards are met at the end of each day
Skills/Qualifications:
- Completion of High School or equivalent
- Valid Drivers License and vehicle to get to and from work sites
- Basic knowledge of building codes and regulations
- Basic knowledge of job site safety rules and regulations
- Basic knowledge of construction materials, methods, and tools
- Able to work with tools safely and efficiently
- Effective communication, problem-solving and organizational skills
- Proficient in time management and excellent attention to detail
- Able to learn new skills quickly
- Strong mathematical skills
- High level of personal integrity and takes direction well
Additional Information:
- General carpenter apprenticeship generally takes 4 years to complete
- 7200 hours in length with a combination of on-the-job training/work experience of 6480 hours (90%) and 720 hours of in-school training (10%)
- The program culminates with an Interprovincial Exam, until successful completion of program, the position within the company is an Apprentice Carpenter.
