Title: Jr. Camp Assistant Role
Type: Part-Time Contract Position (Open to applicants 14+ years old)
Reports To: Program Director
Renumeration: $21/hr, 6.5 hrs/day, 5 days/week (weekdays only).
Mandatory Training: May or June
Official Start Date: July 3, 2026 (up to 6 weeks of work in July & August)

General Description: Jr. Camp Assistants work closely with the Program Director & Camp Instructors to ensure summer camp programming is well supported and runs smoothly. You must be upbeat, ready to work with children ages 5 – 12, and have an interest in art in any form, whether it is painting, drawing, music, theatre, fibre arts, circus arts or beyond!   

Duties of Jr. Camp Assistant:

  •  Helping with supervision of campers
  • Supporting art and educational activities
  • Engaging children during breaks with games
  • Supervising drop-off and pick-up times
  • Helping clean up at the end of the day
  • Acting as a role model for campers
  • Become familiar with Baxter, its mandate, camp descriptions, dates and locations
  • Reviewing the Tips & Tricks, Code of Conduct & other training materials
  • Notify the Program Director of any times they are unable to work/cover a shift
  • Review and confirm shift hours. Flexibility will be offered as camps do not require an assistant there all day.

Qualifications:

  • Be able to work at any camp location (Picton, Bloomfield, Ameliasburgh)
  • Be engaging and enthusiastic, and display a welcoming attitude
  • Love working with children, and have the ability to adapt should the instructor need assistance, ie. can play games with campers
  • Jr. Camp Assistant is open to youth 14+ and is a great opportunity for anyone who attends school in the fall, as the position is recurring every summer!
  • Applicants who are over 18 must have, or be willing to get, a Vulnerable Sector Check with the OPP (letter to be provided and cost will be reimbursed)
