Archive Assistant (Student Full-Time)

Supervisor: Supervisor Museum & Curator

Hours of Work: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm (35 hours per week, weekends and evenings as required)

Salary: $21.63 per hour

Duration: May 18, 2026 to August 28, 2026

What you will do:

  • Assess and appraise photographs within the Museum and Archive Collection, primarily the Napanee Beaver newspaper negatives
  • Conduct ongoing digitization of the negatives, ensuring adherence to technical standards for preservation
  • Create detailed metadata and update archival content management systems (Past Perfect and Archeion)
  • Develop aids to enhance public accessibility to the collection
  • Research the historical context and provenance of selected images as needed
  • Collaborate with the Museum curatorial staff to ensure the collection meets institutional policies and standards
  • Assist the Museum team in their high standard of customer service – greeting the public, assisting in the Reading Room and public programs as required
  • Satisfactory attendance record, subject to the requirements of the Ontario Human Rights Code.

What you will bring:

We are looking for someone who shares our passion for helping people live their best lives and brings:

  • Minimum Post-Secondary education in archival and/or library studies, museum studies, history, or other related field (either in progress and returning to school in the Fall, between the ages of 16-30)
  • Demonstrated familiarity with computer software – PastPerfect and Microsoft Suite
  • Excellent attention to detail, problem solving, and organizational skills
  • Must be able to lift and move materials up to 40 lbs
  • Current CPIC required.
