The H.J. McFarland Memorial Home is a non-profit long-term care facility located on the outskirts of Picton, Ontario in beautiful Prince Edward County. Our philosophy of care is one that recognizes the individuality of each resident and where all staff, family members and community partners are valued and respected for their contributions to resident care.
The Human Resources Department is currently accepting applications for the permanent part-time position of Activity Aide. Reporting directly to the Recreation & Volunteer Services Supervisor, the Activity Aide works as a collaborative member of the team to enhance the quality of life for the residents. The role focuses on enhancing the quality of life of residents through engaging and meaningful activities that promote physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual and social well-being.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- A post-secondary diploma, degree or certificate in Recreation and Leisure Studies, Therapeutic
Recreation, Kinesiology, Gerontology or other related field from a community college or university. - Skills, knowledge, and experience in recreation/social programming.
- Previous experience working with seniors, preferably in Long Term Care, would be an asset.
- Smart Serve would be considered an asset.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a positive history of patience, compassion and courtesy when dealing with seniors and others.
- Flexibility and creativity to meet the needs of the residents.
- Demonstrates understanding of, and compliance with, responsibilities under the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations and the organizations’ health and safety plans, policies and procedures.
- Demonstrates understanding of, compliance with, and commitment to, resident safety responsibilities and corresponding plans, policies and procedures in order to ensure a safe environment for resident.
- Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team.
- Computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office products.
- Proof of a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening Check dated within the last six months.
- Proof of a two-step tuberculin skin test within the last six months.
The current rate of pay for this position is $22.72 to $23.71 per hour plus 14% in lieu of benefits and 4% vacation as per the Unifor Local 8300 Collective Agreement.
