Team Lead, Recycling Materials Audit

Location: Roblin ON

Pay: $62,000-80,000 annually

Job Type: Permanent, full-time

Overview

Reporting to the Manager, National Material Quality, the Lead, Material Quality – ON is responsible to oversee the field level execution of the auditing and monitoring activities that Circular Materials (CM) will be carrying out at various points in the process of collecting and processing recyclable materials.  In this role, the Lead will ensure adherence to sampling, audit and health and safety protocols, supervise audit team staff, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.

This role is based in the Napanee, Ontario, area working full-time onsite at 2332 County Rd 41 WM – Napanee Recycling Facility and Transfer Station in Roblin, Ontario  and requires travel within the province.

Responsibilities

  • Develops a thorough understanding of CM’s sampling, auditing, and monitoring protocols and procedures
  • Supervises CM audit teams in support of the execution of sampling, auditing, and monitoring plans and:
    • Ensures the audit team is undertaking work safely, and in accordance with CM and facility Health & Safety protocols,
    • Ensures audit team members are following audit protocols and procedures correctly, consistently, and efficiently,
    • Ensures the audit deliverables are met in a timely fashion,
    • Fosters a positive working environment,
    • Ensures the audit facilities are maintained in clean and safe state,
    • Oversees the day-to-day management of audit team scheduling, and,
    • Maintains integrity of audit data collection, recording, and reporting
  • Participates in the execution of sampling, auditing and monitoring plans, which may include:
    • Coordinating the collection of samples of inbound and outbound materials at pre-conditioning facilities,
    • Auditing (i.e. sorting for composition analysis) of pre- and post-processed Blue Box materials and residual materials at post-collection partner facilities and/or dedicated audit facilities,
    • Observation of audits undertaken by stakeholders, and,
    • Testing and refinement of auditing protocols and plans
  • Represents CM in a professional manner inside and outside of CM audit facilities
  • Identifies continuous improvement opportunities within the department

Qualifications

Education

  • Diploma or Degree in environmental field or relevant experience
  • Continuing education or professional development in communications, data management or project management is an asset
  • Direct experience or knowledge of Blue Box recycling programs, stewardship programs, or related field is an asset

Experience

  • 1+ years waste and recycling auditing experience
  • Previous supervisory experience or relevant leadership skills is preferred

Knowledge/Competencies/Skills

  • Excellent attention to detail and strong focus on information accuracy
  • Ability to motivate others in a team-oriented, and collaborative environment
  • Competent working with numbers
  • This role involves physical work (e.g. standing for long periods of time and lifting up to 50lbs)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly with Excel, SharePoint, Teams and Jira
  • Comfortable with written and verbal communication with internal and external stakeholders
  • Able to relay analytical observations
  • Excellent organizational skills and time management
  • Ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision
  • Detail-oriented with strong verbal and written communication skills

Working Conditions

  • All CM employees work 40 hours per week
  • Based in the Roblin, Ontario with the ability to travel within the province
  • This role requires field work. As a result, the hours of operation, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm ET must be covered
  • Extra or flexible hours may be required on occasion. The job demands that the incumbent have a flexible work schedule with periods of uneven workload. This role may involve overnight travel to sites throughout ON
  • Remote and Field Work is required to attend on-site field studies, and in-person meetings when needed
  • This role is primarily field based and requires travel to stakeholder sites (such as PCFs, audit facilities, transfer stations)
  • A valid Driver’s license is required, and comprehensive vehicle insurance is required

Pay Transparency

Expected Compensation: 

  • An annual base salary in the range of $62,000 to $80,000
  • The salary range listed complies with the Ontario Employment Standards Act and reflects a potential base salary range for this role.  The actual salary offered will be determined within the range, and will depend on factors, such as the candidate’s unique qualifications, relevant experience, work location and expected contributions.
