The Belleville Police Service is now accepting applications for the position of full-time permanent Information Systems Technician. This is a new additional position. Please review the job description below that details desirable qualities and skills required.
The starting salary is $87,264 annually, with the top of the grid being $103,820. The work location for this position is in-person, with the ability to work remotely on an ad-hoc basis. Hours of work are 40-hours per week, Monday through Friday, working 8-hour shifts or a 10-hour compressed work week. There will be the occasional need for overtime dependent on operational needs. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform duties in a manner that reflects the Service’s Vision, Mission Statement, and Motto.
- Operate within the regulations, policies, and procedures established by the Community Safety and Policing Act, the Belleville Police Service Board, and the Chief of Police.
- Oversee new employee creation, setup, and onboarding on the many different technology platforms as required, and provide new user introduction / training.
- Provide members continuous support and training on the use of new and existing technologies.
- Perform security audits, apply maintenance updates, security packages and firmware updates ensuring all IT infrastructure remains current.
- Investigate, review, redact, and provide audio (911 calls for service) and video (of prisoners), as requested, for evidentiary purposes. Assist members with the upload, management and sharing of digital evidence.
- Support the implementation and administration, including installation, of complete digital evidence environment, including, but not limited to:
- 911 and police radio communications.
- Building, downtown and covert CCTV systems.
- Interview Room Systems.
- Body Worn Cameras, including device enrolment and assignment
- In vehicle dashcam and prisoner recording systems, including Automatic License Plate Recognition.
- Automated digital evidence labelling, virtual reality training and system auditing tools.
- Support the administration, implementation, monitoring and troubleshooting of local and wide area networks and applicable technologies including cybersecurity.
- Support and maintain a growing fleet of Android Smartphone devices and manage those devices using MDM (Mobile Device Management) tools. Support police based mobile applications, including CAD, RMS, digital evidence, e-ticketing and workforce scheduling.
- Act as project manager by leading, participating, documenting and/or implementing new IT project initiatives from start to completion.
- Install, maintain and update in-vehicle technologies. Collaborate with Facility & Fleet Unit for troubleshooting of technology in vehicles.
- Support and maintain telephony systems utilized for 911 and business functions, including auto attendant, voice messaging, handsets and server infrastructure.
- Conduct research to ensure members are using the most efficient and effective systems and applications given the needs and restrictions of the Service.
- Ensure business continuity and support the IT infrastructure needs of the Belleville Police Service building, as well as the branch offices at the Court House and Downtown, offsite dispatch / disaster recovery infrastructure at Firehall and dispatch / radio services to Deep River Police Service.
- Administer, maintain and troubleshoot computer networks, servers, workstations, including laptops, printers, telecommunication equipment, recording equipment (audio and video).
- Administer, maintain and troubleshoot meeting room technologies, and provide support for meeting room use, training laptops and virtual meetings.
- Administer, maintain and support a multi-tenant police / fire radio system, including radio network infrastructure, radio consoles, audio recording systems, and police in-car / portable radios.
- Administer and maintain email systems, mail filtering devices and resource booking technologies.
- Implement, administer and support cybersecurity tools and 2FA technologies.
- Support and safeguard data within cloud-based technologies, including Microsoft 365 and Google Admin.
- Develop and create custom program and automation scripting / development.
- Perform other duties as directed, required or assigned by the Chief of Police or designate.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Experience and Certifications
Required:
- Possess a three-year post-secondary advanced diploma in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology or related and / or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Certification or demonstrated proficiency in Windows Server and VMWare.
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in providing comprehensive networking, server and desktop systems administration and applications suppor
Preferred:
- CompTIA A+, CompTIA Server+ and/or CompTIA Network+ Certifications
- Previous completion of Working at Heights Certification an asset (if the member does not have this training they will be required to successfully complete training).
- Previous Customer Service experience an asset.
Skills and Qualifications
Required:
- Experience with day to day management of Active Directory, including the creation of new users, modification of network access rights, comprehension of group policy.
- Experience with creation, management, backup and support of virtual server and desktop environments.
- Excellent understanding of network wired and wireless infrastructure including switches, firewalls, VLANS and the ability to troubleshoot connectivity issues.
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the many Microsoft suites, including Windows Server and Desktop, Exchange, SQL and Office Suites.
- Excellent understanding of administering cloud-based technologies, including Microsoft M365 and Google Admin
- Discretion and good judgement in dealing with confidential material.
- Excellent customer service approach when interacting, and exchanging information with internal and external contacts.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (listening, speaking, keyboarding, reading and writing) and editing ability.
- Demonstrate thoroughness, accuracy, acute attention to detail, analytic, critical thinking, and problem-solving ability.
- Ability to work and collaborate as an effective team member with a results-driven approach, as well as the ability to work independently.
- Well-developed time management, prioritization, and organizational skills in order to work in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
- Ability to keep current as technology continuously evolves.
Preferred:
- Good understanding of relevant legislation, regulations, Policy & Procedures, and Adequacy Standards Regulations as it pertains to Police Service Information Technology system
- Public sector experience or experience in a law enforcement/policing environment
- Previous experience supporting the following:
- Records Management System.
- Computer Aided Dispatch System.
- 911 and police radio infrastructure.
