Position Overview:

The Fossil Mounting Technician fabricates custom, form-fitting support structures for fossil specimens to be displayed at public and private institutions (e.g. Dinosaurs, Ice-age mammals, invertebrates, etc.) This role is a mix of metal fabrication, scientific interpretation, and creative design to produce safe and accurate museum-quality fossil mounts. Our technical services often include on-site exhibit installation, breakdown, and packing.  RCI Team members are often required to travel internationally to assist with these services.  A successful candidate would be willing to obtain necessary work permits and must have the following:

• Valid Passport

• Clean criminal record check

• Clean vulnerable sectors check

• Clean criminal record and judicial matters check.

Key Responsibilities:

• Fabricate steel armatures, supports, and other custom metalwork for fossil displays

• Cut, grind, bend, weld, and finish steel components to company standards

• Safely handle and mount fragile fossil material

• Assist with exhibit installations and breakdowns

• Maintain safe and clean work practices

Qualifications:

• Experience in welding and metal fabrication

• Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail

• Comfortable working with power tools, lifting heavy objects, and other physical tasks

• Team-oriented with the ability work independently

• Strong problem-solving abilities

• Holds a valid passport (or willing to obtain one) with the willingness to travel internationally on short notice

• Ability to work overtime

• Comfortable working at heights

• Ability to self-motivate with a commitment to continued learning

• Ethics and Integrity

Assets:

• Fossil/museum experience

• Background in blacksmithing, sculpture, or fine metalworking

• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings

• Familiarity with rigging equipment and techniques

• Experienced with/licensed to operate scissor/boom lifts/forklifts

• Working at heights certification

• Interest in natural history or skeletal anatomy

• Willing to cross-train in other departments

Work Conditions:

• Hours of Operation: 7AM to 3PM Monday-Friday

• Work Location: In Person

Salary Range

$20.00 – $25.00 per hour
