Technician – Refrigeration Testing & Production Run Checks
Location: 8 Douglas Rd, Trenton, ON
Pay: $22.09-26.46
Job Type: Permanent, full-time
Job Summary
The Technician is responsible for testing HVAC units on the production line to ensure proper refrigeration performance, safety, and compliance with design specifications. This includes pre-run checks, operational testing, performance verification, and troubleshooting of air conditioners, heat pumps, chillers, and dehumidifiers before final dispatch.
Key Responsibilities
1. Pre-Run Inspection
- Verify completion of assembly (mechanical, piping, and electrical)
- Ensure proper refrigerant charge, vacuum level, and system readiness
- Check electrical connections, sensors, and control wiring
- Confirm all safety interlocks and protections are in place
2. Refrigeration System Testing
- Start and monitor HVAC units on the test bench or production line
- Measure and record key parameters: (Pressures , Temperature , Airflow & Electrical Parameters)
- Evaluate system performance against specified test conditions
3. Production Run Checks
- Perform functional checks during continuous production runs
- Ensure consistent performance across units
- Monitor for abnormal noise, vibration, or system instability
- Verify control sequences and operating modes
4. Leak Testing & System Integrity
- Conduct leak tests using electronic detectors or pressure decay methods
- Ensure refrigerant circuit integrity post-operation
- Identify and report any micro-leaks or failures
5. Troubleshooting & Rectification Support
- Diagnose faults in refrigeration cycle, electrical controls, or airflow
- Support rework teams in correcting defects
- Retest units after rectification
6. Documentation & Reporting
- Record test data in logs, check sheets, or digital systems
- Maintain traceability of tested units
- Highlight recurring defects and escalate quality issues
7. Compliance & Standards
- Ensure testing is performed as per internal SOPs and standards
- Support compliance with applicable standard
- Follow calibration requirements for instruments
8. Tools & Equipment Handling
- Use gauges, manifold sets, temperature probes, clamp meters, and airflow measurement tools
- Operate test rigs, calorimeters (if applicable), and data acquisition systems
9. Safety & Housekeeping
- Follow safety procedures for high-pressure refrigerants and electrical systems
Experience
- 2–5 years in HVAC testing, commissioning, or production quality
- Experience in AC/heat pump/dehumidifier testing is preferred
