Meet Jennifer:
Jennifer came to Career Edge while working part-time as a Health Ambassador in the healthcare sector. Although she enjoyed helping others, the role required extensive travel between clients’ homes and virtual meetings. She was ready for a career change that would provide greater stability, predictable hours, and a healthier work-life balance through full-time employment in a fixed location.
After being referred to Career Edge by her partner, who had previously found full-time employment with the support of the Employment Services team following a layoff, Jennifer met with an Employment Counsellor to begin planning her next career move.
Career Edge’s Support:
Together, they developed a new resume that focused on Jennifer’s transferable skills and future career goals rather than simply outlining her previous work experience. They also created a versatile cover letter template that could be easily customized for a variety of administrative positions, giving Jennifer the confidence to apply for roles that matched her aspirations.
Jennifer accessed Career Edge’s Resource Centre to search and apply for opportunities, receiving both technical assistance and encouragement throughout the process. When she was invited to interview for a Customer Service Administrator position with Hastings County, she reached out for additional support. Working with a Job Coach, Jennifer participated in a mock interview and received personalized interview coaching that helped strengthen her confidence and prepare her to showcase her skills.
From Support to Employment:
Jennifer’s hard work paid off when she was offered the position. Career Edge continued to support her through the onboarding process by assisting with scanning and submitting employment documentation. She also received workwear support, helping ease the financial transition into her new office environment.
Jennifer began her full-time role as a Customer Service Administrator at the beginning of June. The position provides the stability, consistent hours, and reduced commuting she was seeking, while also offering opportunities for long-term growth. Just two weeks into her new role, Jennifer shared that she is thrilled with her career change and excited about what the future holds.
