Picton Terminals is seeking a hardworking and safety-focused General Labourer to join our team. This hands-on role supports the safe and efficient loading and unloading of vessels, cargo handling, yard maintenance, and general terminal operations. The successful candidate will work both independently and alongside experienced team members in a fast-paced marine environment.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with the loading and unloading of vessels calling at Picton Terminals.
- Support truck loading and unloading activities.
- Operate small equipment and vehicles safely following training and certification.
- Place and remove dunnage and other cargo-securing materials as required.
- Maintain laydown yards used for bulk and breakbulk cargo operations.
- Assist with general maintenance and upkeep of terminal property, buildings, and roadways.
- Support special projects and other operational requirements as assigned, including assisting construction crews when needed.
- Follow and promote all port safety procedures and policies.
- Participate in daily toolbox meetings and safety discussions.
- Adhere to permit systems and safety protocols, including confined space entry, hot work, and lockout/tagout procedures.
- Contribute to maintaining a safe work environment for employees, contractors, and visitors.
Qualifications/Experience:
- 1–3 years of experience in a general labour position.
- Willingness to learn and develop skill sets in the marine and port industry.
- Familiarity with or working around tugs, barges, and ships will be considered an asset.
- Ability to work after hours or night shifts as required for vessel operations.
