County Food Hub is looking for a friendly, reliable and enthusiastic person to join our Cooking Club team as a Part-Time Cooking Club Assistant.

Our Cooking Club offers free, hands-on cooking classes for children & youth. Each class brings together about 10 kids for an afternoon of cooking, learning and having fun in our commercial kitchen. The Cooking Club Assistant supports and works alongside our Cooking Club Lead, helping make each class safe, organized, welcoming and enjoyable for everyone.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working with kids and being part of a positive, community-focused organization. You do not need professional kitchen experience. We can teach you the kitchen skills you need. What matters most to us is that you are kind, dependable, patient and ready to pitch in.

The position

  • Permanent part-time employment

  • $20/hour

  • Typical hours are 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. (there is some flexibility in start time, if needed)

  • Location: County Food Hub, Sophiasburgh

  • Minimum of 75 classes guaranteed per year, with the possibility of additional classes

  • Average of 8 hours per week

  • Approximately two classes per week on average

  • Primarily Wednesdays and Thursdays

The Cooking Club schedule varies throughout the year. Some weeks will have three classes, while others may have no classes. The average will be approximately two classes per week.

What you’ll do

Working alongside the Cooking Club Lead, you will help:

  • Prepare ingredients and get the kitchen ready for class

  • Set up cooking stations, equipment and supplies

  • Welcome and greet participants as they arrive

  • Work directly with students during cooking activities

  • Help students follow recipes and complete cooking tasks

  • Help supervise the safe use of knives, stoves, ovens and other kitchen equipment

  • Encourage and support students as they learn new skills

  • Help manage behaviour and keep the class moving in a positive way

  • Help with inventory and putting supplies away

  • Help distribute and collect participant surveys

  • Clean and reset the kitchen after class, including dishes, sweeping and mopping

  • Share cleanup responsibilities with the Cooking Club Lead and be comfortable completing cleanup independently, when needed

  • Pitch in wherever needed to help the class run smoothly

What we’re looking for

Most importantly, we are looking for someone who:

  • Is great with kids

  • Is kind, patient and encouraging

  • Is reliable and dependable

  • Shows up on time and is willing to work

  • Is comfortable in a busy, hands-on environment

  • Works well as part of a team

  • Is willing to learn and pitch in wherever needed

Previous kitchen experience is not required. Food Handler certification is not required.

There’s no ideal age for this position. It could be a great first job, a rewarding side job, or a fun way to stay connected and involved in retirement. We’re less interested in where you are in your working life and more interested in finding the right person: someone who is kind, reliable, patient and great with kids.
