About Reaching for Rainbows

Reaching for Rainbows has proudly supported children and families in Prince Edward County since 2011 through licensed after-school programming for girls ages 6–12. We are expanding our services to include a 3-hour child minding program for children ages 2–5 and weekend After Hours Care for children ages 6–12.

We are seeking a Casual Childcare Service Worker to join our team and support the delivery of safe, engaging, and inclusive childcare programming.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Casual Childcare Service Worker is responsible for providing high-quality, age-appropriate childcare programming that aligns with the philosophy, goals, and mission of Reaching for Rainbows.

The successful candidate will create a welcoming environment where children are supported in their intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development through play-based learning and meaningful relationships.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and implement engaging, age-appropriate activities that support children’s learning and development.
• Provide programming that reflects the principles of “How Does Learning Happen?” and documents children’s learning experiences.
• Create a safe, inclusive, and stimulating environment for children.
• Support play-based learning opportunities that encourage creativity, curiosity, and social development.
• Build positive relationships with children, families, colleagues, and community partners.
• Maintain accurate attendance records, daily logs, child documentation, and required program records.
• Ensure compliance with the Child Care and Early Years Act and Reaching for Rainbows policies and procedures.
• Support children with individual needs, allergies, and authorized medication administration as required.
• Maintain a clean and organized learning environment, including sanitizing toys, tables, and program areas.
• Communicate regularly and positively with parents/guardians.
• Work collaboratively with staff to support programming, problem-solving, and a positive team environment.
• Participate in professional development opportunities and stay current with Early Childhood Education practices.
• Follow the College of Early Childhood Educators Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice.
• Represent Reaching for Rainbows positively within the community.

Qualifications & Requirements

• ECE graduate with experience working in a licensed childcare environment considered an asset.
• Applicants with related education and experience (SSW, CYW, PSW, or similar disciplines) are encouraged to apply.
• Registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators (RECE) considered an asset.
• Experience working with children, including toddlers and young children.
• Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification.
• Clear Vulnerable Sector Check.
• Up-to-date immunizations as required by Hastings Prince Edward Public Health.
• Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
• Reliable, flexible, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
• Reliable transportation, valid Ontario driver’s licence, and access to a vehicle considered an asset.
