Social Enterprise Worker

One Year Contract, 28 hours/week

$24.36 per hour


Position Summary and Responsibilities:

The Social Enterprise Worker will support the development and implementation of a business plan to create a viable social enterprise for the FoodWRx project.  Specifically working with Café 263 and the Soup WRx volunteers and staff in the development of the plan.


Key Responsibilities

Detailed Responsibilities


Business Plan Development

·         Research food social enterprises that work with newcomers and youth

·         Host focus groups with Café 263 and Soup WRx volunteers/staff to determine  and understand previous business model and garner suggestions  for change/expansion

·         Working in conjunction with the Community Development Worker, create a 5 year business plan detailing capital and operating revenue required, including product sales and grants

·         Within the business plan outline marketing and branding strategies to increase sales and customer base

·         Work with local Social Value Fund to determine funding viability

·         Using the business plan as template write and submit funding grants/loans applications

·         Within the business plan outline a marketing and branding strategies increase sales and customer base

·         Work with local employment agencies to determine training grants available to hire newcomers and youth for Food WRX project

·         Secure grant revenue for the first 2 years of operation of the Food WRX project


Enterprise Start Up/Expansion

·         Assist Manager and Community Development Workers to hire a cook/canner and program worker to initiate the project and expand/change current operations

·         Secure equipment funding needed to operate the business

·         Work with Manager and Community Development Workers to determine physical location for the project and layout of production space.

·         Within 6 months, begin operation of the enterprise with assistance from the cook/canner, program support worker and Community Development Worker

·         Research funding available and work with the Community Development Worker to secure funding for the first two years of operation

·      Supports consistent application and development of KCHC policies and procedures

·      Supports KCHC’s student and volunteer placement programs

·      Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and quality improvement

·      On occasion, perform other temporary duties as required


Basic Education and Experience Requirements

·      College Diploma or Business Degree relevant to the position

·      2-3 years’ experience developing business plans

·      Strong interpersonal skills

·      Proficiency with computer system and relevant software

·      Superior oral and written communication skills (French bilingualism or proficiency in another language an asset)

Other Requirements

·      Current and satisfactory Criminal and Vulnerable Persons Check

·      Proof of complete COVID-19 vaccination or medical exemption

·      Valid Driver’s Licence, Driver’s Abstract and proof of vehicle liability insurance as this is a requirement under KCHC’s insurance provider (HIROC).  This job requires driving between locations throughout the day.

·      Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis

·      Above average attention to detail, ability to multi-task, and take initiative with positive attitude.

·      Ability to meet the physical demands of the position including lifting up to 40 lbs, stooping, bending, etc.

·      Above average communication and interpersonal skills, and a commitment to being a “team player”

·      Current CPR and First Aid

·      Current Safe Food Handler Certification, preferred

·      Up to date immunizations and TB test
