Shunt Truck Driver

Shift:

12-hour shift duration with two 30-minute lunch breaks working on a Continental shift schedule. Arrive 15 minutes before shift for a timely pass down

Overall Responsibility:

Satisfying client’s shunt requirements, update YARDVIEW & AS400 for CAT trailers promptly with proper recording of the days shunting on shunt log.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

The shunt driver position includes but not necessarily limited to the items below.  The management of Clark’s Cartage has the right to amend or adjust this position without notice if it is in the best interests of the operation and that of the company as a whole.

• PASS-DOWN – At the start of each shift change, an information exchange between the shunter coming off duty and the shunter coming on duty, also including yard supervisor that is on duty.

• DAILY VEHICLE INSPECTION – This is a requirement of not only the company but is also the law! A daily vehicle inspection of the shunt truck and a daily vehicle inspection report must be completed at the start of the shift. Any defects or damages requiring maintenance must be written up and copies given to the Yard Supervisor, the Maintenance Manager and the Operations Manager.

• Ensuring fluids are kept up – it is vital to the operation of the equipment that all vehicle fluids are kept topped up.

• Cleaning out the cab – at the end of your shift, you are required to clean out any garbage and dispose of it into the dumpster, sweep out and wipe down when possible.

• Fueling the shunt truck at opportune moments on your shift and not leaving next shift with an empty truck. 

• Reporting all issues to the yard supervisor as they are encountered.

• Timely shunting service – keep in mind that you work for Clark’s Cartage and we are providing a service to Goodyear. They are the paying customer and expect prompt and reliable service at all times.

• Shunt Recording – it is imperative that each shunt and times in & out of each door/area into the next be recorded without fail. This is how we get paid and this how we answer any questions to the customer on where you have been and at what time. They do ask! 

• Bills to the yard – as bills are cut by Goodyear, the shunter on duty will bring them over to the CAT yard in a timely fashion. If you have a major delay for whatever reason please contact the Yard Supervisor so they can go and get the bills. 

• Keeping the trailer compounds orderly – trailers are to be spotted back to back, shoulder width apart, rows lined up evenly and carriers are all in their designated spots.

• Cranking the dollies of all trailers other than those containing empty racks, tire loads or are empty trailers.

• Nights alone, gate closed and locked every time you head back to the plant, if not shunting at plant, you are required to spend your time at the yard.

• Final check of yard and truck parking area at end of shift before going home looking for anything unusual. (example: lights left on in trucks)
