Sales Assistant - Conference/Event Sales/Catering


Reporting to: Director of Sales (Inn Keeper)




Career Edge is working with an employer who is seeking a dynamic sales person to join their team. This unique individual must possess excellent communication skills in customer relations and be willing to put maximum effort into targeting new business and exceeding established goals for sales.
He/She will develop new clients to boost hotel event and conference sales, thus increasing hotel accommodation, dining and associated activity sales.
They are seeking a proactive person who can table the initiative to build as well as maintain the existing client base. This person will work with the Director of Sales and the Innkeepers to:



  1. Seek repeat business from previous conference and event customers.
  2. Seek new business by utilizing leads.
  3. In following up on business leads the sales assistant must be prepared to make repeated contacts with prospective customers to nurture their interest until the time and circumstances are in line to result in a booking.
  4. Follow up on requests for service information; create sales packages always with the intent of maximizing hotel revenues by promoting dining, accommodation, cookery school, musical entertainment, and other known events like wine tasting, regional activities, etc.


Applicable Skills and Requirements:


  1. Post-Secondary or higher education, eg: bachelors degree, especially in a business related major.
  2. Past sales experience in the hospitality field is desirable.
  3. A diploma or degree in restaurant/hotel management would be an asset.
  4. Commitment to exceeding guest expectations.
  5. Superior written and oral communication skills.
  6. Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to set priorities for self.
  7. Computer literacy with knowledge of a variety of computer software applications including ACT & Excel.
  8. Capable of targeting new business opportunities.
  9. Capable of building on and maintaining existing customer relationships.
  10. Able to develop and maintain a customer contact and database from past and prospective clients.
  11. Able to establish a pleasant and effective sales call cycle for key customers, partners and contacts.
  12. Able to maintain a clear line of communications on sales commitments with department managers. Eg: food service, accommodation service personnel, etc. Generating full written descriptions of the booking with all guest requirements clearly outlined.
  13. Able, under direction, to learn how to generate a contract with the client.
  14. Able to work with the marketing team to utilize social media and other marketing tools to increase sales.
  15. In possession of, or willing to develop skills in sales of catered events.
