Live In Superintendent

Leeward House, located at 1133 County Road #5, Picton, is seeking a live-in building superintendent in a cooperative transitional housing facility with up to nine residents. The live-in superintendent will support the successful operation of Leeward House, for approximately one hour per day, in partnership with the Coordinator and residents to monitor and support the security and maintenance of the facility in exchange for free accommodation and access to Leeward House common benefits and programs.The live-in superintendent will reside in a main floor one-bedroom apartment with full access to common areas and programs if they choose, as well as maintain or secure weekday work outside of Leeward House. People with lived experience, including homelessness are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities include:

  • Work with residents and Coordinator to ensure the property is safe and clean
  • Monitor daily to ensure security of Leeward House operation and residency requirements outside of weekday hours, overnight and on weekends including visitor access
  • Respond to tenant maintenance requests in a timely manner
  • Periodically inspect and/or change furnace filters, smoke alarm batteries, fire extinguishers
  • Keep maintenance and communication logs and ensure facility safety plans are met
  • Participate, along with the resident schedule to clean property common areas including dusting, sweeping, mopping and disinfecting
  • Perform unit turnover maintenance and cleaning
  • Maintain footpaths during winter months including snow shoveling and salting
  • Ensure garbage and recycling removal to proper pick-up location on scheduled dates
  • Perform general grounds keeping duties
  • Other duties within the scope of the position as requested by municipal staff
  • Follow Leeward House programs and operational procedures and work with Leeward House Coordinator and other staff for the successful management of the facility

The successful candidate will possess the following:

  • Able to live in a cooperative living environment
  • Experience with minor repairs and cleaning an asset
  • Strong communication, problem solving and relationship skills required
  • Class G License, First Aid and other certifications an asset

This position is a specialized contract position and exempt from the Residential Tenancies Act and Employment Standards Act, and is not a County of Prince Edward employee.
