Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Providing bookkeeping assistance to clients, internally and externally, in various formats including Quickbooks, QBO, Sage/Simply Accounting, and CaseWare
  • Processing bi-weekly/ semi-monthly payroll for clients
  • Preparing monthly journal entries and reconciliations for balance sheet accounts as well financial and operating statements
  • Preparation and filing of HST returns
  • Providing assistance with ad-hoc reports as required
  • Preparation of client reports as required
  • Preparation ot T1, T4's as required
  • Maintaining regular contact with clients and taxation authorities (CRA) to complete all routine formalities from an accounting perspective
  • Other duties as assigned

A successful candidate will have:

  • Strong bookkeeping skills are essential
  • 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in public practice
  • Experience with and/or knowledge of QuickBooks, Sage Accounting, and Microsoft Office suite
  • Experience with accounting and tax software an asset. (CaseWare, TaxPrep)
  • Ability to multitask, meet recurring deadlines and take ownership of assigned client work
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn and develop
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively both independently as well as part of a team
  • Strong client and interpersonal skills

The most important skillsets we are seeking is someone who can engage in great interpersonal relations with clients and team members.  You will have high energy and a positive can-do focus.  Accuracy and precision are core skills for this position (we are accountants after all!) and the ability to juggle multiple priorities with ease and confidence will be necessary during our busy tax season.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, in both verbal and written communication
  • Ability to take initiative, to organize workload efficiently and manage/meet deadlines
  • Approachable, supportive team player with a strong sense of urgency and a demonstrated history of achieving common goals
  • Experience working in a professional and confidential capacity
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office, web-based programs/databases and general office equipment
