About Us:

Hiawatha is a vibrant First Nation community located on the beautiful north shore of Rice Lake.  We are located approximately 20 minutes from Peterborough, ON and 45 minutes from Cobourg, ON.  There are approximately 664 registered citizens with approximately 235 residing in Hiawatha.  In the summer months our population increases significantly.  Hiawatha is an employer that prides itself on diversity and fairness, providing a progressive working environment that fosters culture, positivity and growth.

 

Position Summary:

This Driver will offer transportation services that will allow Home and Community Care clients (and any other clients exemplifying need) of Hiawatha to travel to Peterborough. This service will provide pick-up and drop off, of clients to the designated location (Walmart/Lansdowne Place/Grocery Store). The Driver service will not be used as a means for medical transportation, but as a way to support individuals in maintaining independent living. The incumbent must follow the strategic plans of the organization and adhere to the HFN vision and values.

 

Reporting:

This position will report directly to the Social Services Administrator.

 

Main Responsibilities:

  • Driver will use the company vehicle for transportation
  • Assist clients in and out of the van, as well as any bags/walkers they may have
  • Monitor and advise on maintenance of vehicle (filling the gas, advise of any maintenance issues, performing circle checks for safety, maintaining cleanliness of vehicle before and after use)
  • Maintain a travel log
  • Responsible for the health, safety, and wellbeing of the passengers
  • Abstain from and stop any lateral violence while in the vehicle
  • Report of all incidents and accidents
  • Assist clients with shopping as needed
  • Comply with policies, procedures and legislation
  • Promote the vision, mission and values of Hiawatha First Nation
  • Other duties as assigned

 

 

Requirements:

  • Experienced driver, with a classified G License
  • Minimum of 5 years with a G License
  • Comfortable with driving van/large vehicle
  • Reliable transportation to work
  • Clear Drivers Abstract
  • Must provide a clear CPIC with VSS
  • First aid Certified and CPR Certified
  • Demonstrate safe working habits
  • Knowledge or willing to learn about managing portable oxygen, wheelchair assembling
  • Knowledge of Peterborough area
  • Experience with vulnerable population an asset
  • Dress appropriately
