Reporting to the Associate Director, Development, in the Faculty of Arts and Science, the Development Officer, Annual and Leadership Giving maintains an active portfolio of prospective donors in relation to the leadership annual giving strategy. The incumbent develops annual and leadership giving initiatives to strengthen engagement, increase philanthropic support from a variety of audiences, and enhance pipeline development within Faculty of Arts and Science (FAS) Advancement. Coordinating and collaborating with a variety of teams, the incumbent will split their time working directly with donors, developing strategies and implementing new initiatives to grow the Faculty of Arts and Science’s Leadership Annual Giving (LAG) program. The incumbent will write, create and provide advice regarding FAS annual and leadership giving solicitations deemed necessary through the development of strategy.
This position requires the incumbent to regularly travel and work evenings and weekends and is subject to the Averaging and Travel Time Credit provisions of the USW Local 2010 Collective Agreement.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborates with the Associate Director to execute and manage an effective LAG program that increases revenues year over year. Recommends, plans and executes innovative and sophisticated proposals for LAG prospects. Maintains an active portfolio of donors, with responsibility for cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of key leadership giving prospects, in order to acquire and upgrade gifts and pledges up to $24,999.
- Provides high-level expertise and direction in the development and implementation of engaging and timely fundraising strategies for leadership giving initiatives, FAS annual appeals and other targeted solicitations designed to maximize long-term financial support for the This includes managing the efficient flow of information between FAS, Annual Giving and other units within the Office of Advancement.
- Works with Donor Relations to develop Terms of Reference and Letters of Intent and negotiates with Builds and manages relationships with internal and external stakeholders by ensuring gifts are effectively stewarded, advising families and honourees with tact and professionalism.
- In consultation with the Associate Director, works with the Alumni & Student Strategic Initiatives team to ensure integrated strategy, planning and execution of reunion class giving projects. Works with faculty partners to determine and execute strategies around milestone giving opportunities. Meets with key stakeholders including volunteers and staff on a regular basis to review progress against annual goals and prospect strategy In consideration of progress to date, takes a lead role in identifying and implementing further opportunities and strategies that may have arisen to ensure goals will be met.
- Keeps abreast of emerging trends in alumni, student, volunteer and donor behaviours, including demographic cohort In consultation with the Associate Director, designs and manages innovative and sophisticated relationship-building programs that address these trends and cultivate the life-long involvement of donors with the university.
- Works with Advancement staff in the execution of mini campaigns; including, writing, reviewing, and editing case statements, donor proposals, briefing notes and appeals in support of annual and leadership giving solicitations. Assists with pre/post visit planning and follow-up including updating all contact and solicitation activity on the Advance database.
- Directs and provides leadership on solicitation strategies for designated programs, including faculty, staff, retirees, donors, alumni, friends, special interest groups and other priority Works with other leaders in Advancement as appropriate on these solicitation and engagement strategies.
- Evaluates program performance and needs; researches and interprets information and data; provides accurate and timely program analysis and reporting to formulate, execute, evaluate and benchmark strategic and priority driven implementation plans to key stakeholders. Develops reports, including up-to-date prospect assessment, solicitation strategies, and active proposal evaluations for designated Reports findings and implements changes in strategy as required to the Associate Director and other members of the Advancement team.
- Meets with the Associate Director on a regular basis to develop/refine objectives, to discuss strategies for meeting objectives and to resolve complex problems encountered in implementing plans.

- Undergraduate university degree required.
- Minimum three years of relevant, successful work experience in fundraising, including personal face-to-face solicitation, with a focus on annual and leadership giving or a related field, preferably in an educational setting.
- Working towards or possesses a professional fundraising certification considered an asset.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience of the components of an effective fundraising operation – including campaign fundraising, major and principal giving, annual giving and gift planning.
- Demonstrated success in the identification, evaluation, cultivation, stewardship and direct personal solicitation of gifts; preferably in an educational environment.
- Proven track record in developing and implementing strategic plans and meeting plan
