Description

Position Summary:

The 24-7 Supportive Housing Residential Counsellor functions as a member of a multi-disciplinary team to provide ongoing side-by-side in-house and community support, Activities of Daily Living teaching and stabilization for individuals living with a serious mental illness, addictions issues, dual diagnosis, and/or concurrent disorders.  Working collaboratively with individuals, family members, team members, treatment team members and other service providers, the incumbent provides services within a supportive housing model, aiming for individual self-sufficiency to encourage the potential for clients to transition to a more independent living situation. The 24-7 Supportive Housing Residential Counsellor will monitor and attend to the well-being and safety of residents, and maintain a comfortable and clean living environment. The 24-7 Supportive Housing Residential Counsellor will work to support clients in enhancing their social/interpersonal relationships, use leisure time effectively, encourage participation in events, encourage and support the development of positive relationships and interaction in order to support client treatment and recovery.

 

Minimum Qualifications & Experience:

  • College Diploma in a related discipline
  • Two years relevant experience providing services to individuals who live with a mental illness, a dual diagnosis, and/or concurrent disorder, preferably in a community setting
  • Current First Aid and Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (FA/CPR) Certification
  • Current Non Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI)
  • Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) an asset
  • Demonstrated crisis intervention skills/experience
  • Well-developed communication, interpersonal and prioritization skills
  • Well-developed assessment, crisis intervention, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply best practice therapeutic interventions such as cognitive behavior therapy and motivational interviewing appropriate for individuals with complex needs
  • Demonstrated ability to develop therapeutic rapport with individuals living with complex needs
  • Familiarity with Ontario Common Assessment of Need (OCAN) and EMHWare an asset
  • Must be able to work independently and interdependently in collaboration with other multidisciplinary team members
  • Must possess a valid Ontario Driver’s License and have regular access to a reliable vehicle and provide proof of adequate vehicle insurance
  • Basic proficiency in computer skills; MS Office preferred
